ตำนานเก่าแก่ “ท้าวเสมอใจ” ณ วัดบ้านอ่าย  ที่รู้จักมหาชนทั่วไป และลูกหลานท้าวเสมอใจ

วัดสันต้นเปา (บ้านอ่าย) ตั้งอยู่เลขที่ ๑๗๑ บ้านอ่าย ถนนโชตนา หมู่ที่ ๕ ตำบลศรีดงเย็น อำเภอไชยปราการ จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ สังกัดคณะสงฆ์มหานิกาย ที่ดินที่ตั้งวัด มีเนื้อที่ ๖ ไร่ ๑๘ ตารางวา ได้รับพระราชทานวิสุงคามสีมา เมื่อวันที่ ๑๙ พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๓๙

ตามประวัติเก่าแก่เล่าว่า สถานที่ตั้งวัดในปัจจุบัน เดิมเป็นที่ตั้งด่านตรวจคนเข้าเมืองฝาง โดยในสมัยนั้นเจ้าเมืองฝางได้ส่งคนสนิท คือ ท้าวเสมอใจ มาประจำอยู่ที่บ้านอ่าย หรือบ้านด่าน (คำว่า “อ่าย” หมายถึง “ด่าน”) เพื่อให้ส่งข่าวสารต่างๆ ให้แก่เจ้าเมืองได้รู้ จนเป็นที่รู้จักมหาชนทั่วไป และลูกหลานท้าวเสมอใจ ก็ยังคงอยู่ในบ้านอ่าย

วัดสันต้นเปา (บ้านอ่าย) สร้างเมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๔๘๒ โดยแยกออกจากวัดเดิมมาคือ วัดทรายขาว ในขณะนั้นมีพระสมจิตร์ สุจิตโต เจ้าอาวาสวัดทรายขาว พร้อมทั้ง นายกำธร แก้วปัญญา ผู้ใหญ่บ้าน, ส.อ.สิงห์คำ อินต๊ะแก้ว ผู้ช่วยผู้ใหญ่บ้าน, นายถา แก้วมาลาไวยาวัจกร นายสิทธิสาร สว่างทิศ มัคนายก ได้ปรึกษาหารือกันว่า วัดเดิมที่ตั้งอยู่นั้นเป็นที่ลุ่มต่ำจะไปไหนมาไหนก็ไม่สะดวกโดยเฉพาะฤดูฝนลำบากมาก เพราะน้ำท่วม จึงพร้อมด้วยชาวบ้านอีกประมาณ ๓๗ หลังเรือน ชวนกันมาสร้างวัดใหม่ห่างจากวัดเดิมประมาณ ๓ กิโลเมตร โดยใช้ชื่ออย่างเป็นทางการว่า “วัดสันต้นเปา” แต่คนนิยมเรียกว่า “วัดบ้านอ่าย” เลยติดคำว่าบ้านอ่าย ตั้งแต่นั้นเป็นต้นมา

WAT SAN TON PAO (BAN AI)

Phro Kru Wimon Bunyakhom, Dean of Si Dong Yen Sub district, District 2, reside as the abbot. Wat San TonPoo (Ban Ail), locoted at 171 Ban Ai, Chotona Road, Village No. 5, Si Dong Yen Sub district, Chaiprakarn District, Chiang Mai Province, under the Mahonikai Sangha, the land of the temple has an area of 604.5 square meters, was granted by royal family on May 19, 1996, according to old history. At present, it was the location of Fang immigration checkpoint. In those days, the governor of Fang had sent a close friend, Thao Samueng Jai, to stay at Ban Ai or Ban Dan (the word “Ai” means “Checkpoint”). in order to send news to the governor. Thao Samueng Joi was known to the general public and the descendants of Thao always remain in Ban Ai until today.

San Ton Pao Temple (Ban Ai) was built in 1939 by srating from the old temple which is called the White Sand Temple. The reason is because the original temple which is located in a lowland and was not easy to travel, especially during the rainy season because of the heavy flood. Department satraYardYom and with about 37 neighboring houses together help built the new temple about 3 kilometers away from the original temple by using the offcial name “Watson Ton Pao”, but people popularly call it “Ban Aai Temple”. The temple include education training center to prepare children to become novice monks.
